TIPS TO PREPARE FOR THE A-LEVELS

Only those students who have an effective study method and who plan and optimize their study sessions are more likely to easier pass the GCE-AL exams than others.

Here the most effective habits recommended by experienced teachers and employed by all successful GCE-sitters and students.

The student who wants to pass his A-Level exam:

IN CLASSROOMAT HOMEWITH HIS/HER CLASSMATES
  • Is diligent, attentive and actively participates in classes from day one;
  • Doesn’t underestimate any subject;
  • Is always motivated and determined to learn and succeed.
  • Plans his study sessions with a revision schedule, periodically adjusted if necessary, and which he scrupulously follows;
  • Summarizes on a daily basis each lesson for each subject with the help of well-prepared and structured summary sheets which he then learns intelligently.
  • Learn in study groups and practise continuously using sample-tests in class or old papers.
  • NB: Make sure that the main objective is always to learn for the exam; if not, leave the group immediately.

Use Internet
To optimize his/her study sessions, download or consult sample-tests and old papers; To read more and deepen your general knowledge. Only visit sites with verified content. Avoid social networks which are a huge waste of time.

Take care of his physical shape:

By eating a healthy and balanced diet; by having adequate and constant rest (at least 7 hours of sleep per day) and by practising sports regularly to relax.

By avoiding alcohol, drugs and narcotics consumption, which not only impair thinking, judgement and working ability, but also, more importantly, damage health irreversibly.

Tips for your study sessions

Identify what kind of learner you are and adjust your study method accordingly:

  • Visually: you learn best with the help of graphics, diagrams, videos, summary sheets, etc.
  • Auditory: you learn best by listening; you will tend to learn by heart;
  • Kinesthetic: you need practice and do it yourself to understand and assimilate;
  • Communicative: you learn more easily in pairs or groups.

Use as many learning channels as possible at once: visual, auditory, kinaesthetic.

The day before and the day of the exam
  • GO TO BED EARLY : after gathering documents and tools needed for the next day (National ID-Card, calculator, pens, etc.); Important: wear something you are comfortable in.
  • On exam’s day, MAKE SURE TO BE ON TIME at the exam’s place and follow the invigilators' instructions.
  • TAKE THE TIME TO READ EACH PAPER CAREFULLY, several times if necessary. Then answer the questions without haste, starting with the easiest ones. NB: Take the time to read your paper over to avoid mistakes, miscalculations, etc.
